Your dog’s skin could be getting dry for many reasons. It could be from weather change and their environments changing such as seasons, If you’ve changed their food recently or gave them something they don’t normally eat, maybe from having fleas or ticks, or maybe the air is too dry. It could even just be plain old allergies. Like I said it could be many different reasons so don’t go blaming yourself. But whatever it may be I will help you get to the bottom of it! I am about to tell you 5 natural ways to help dogs dry skin.
Natural ways to help dogs dry skin.
Let’s get to it! Good News! Most of these remedie’s ingredients most likely will be on hand and found in your kitchen. You don’t even have to leave your home. But if you feel cautious feel free to contact a veterinarians office. Here are 5 natural ways to help dogs dry skin!
Olive Oil
Olive oil is a great way to heal your dog’s dry skin. You would put about 5 drops of olive oil in a cup and work it in your dog’s fur until you reach their skin and leave it on. You obviously don’t want them to be dripping wet so don’t put the olive oil on heavy and dab dry any excess oil remaining. You can repeat this daily and even adding a tablespoon of olive oil to their diet can help keep their skin moisturized. But caution to any open cuts or sores. The olive oil could delay the eating process due to it being an anti inflammatory. This process will show results in as little as 2 weeks!
Vitamin E Oil
Vitamin E oil can also be given topically and orally! With Vitamin E oil you can just apply it to your dogs’ irritated areas without diluting it. You can even apply it to minor burns. It will soothe your dog’s irritation and help generate new skin. Vitamin E oil has a lot of benefits for dogs! Check out this site! For hot spots you can apply Vitamin E oil up to 3 times daily. But to give your dog Vitamin E oil orally, veterinarians suggest you should just go with the capsules because too much can cause overdose or illness. You can see results within 7 days with this remedy.
Plain Yogurt
Plain yogurt works FAST but it is not my favorite just because it’s temporary and doesn’t exactly fix the whole problem. But plain yogurt does have healing properties like great probiotics that can fight off yeast infections and skin rashes. Not to mention plain yogurt can be a fantastic skin care for you as well! But if your dog is getting dry skin from its environment or seasonal allergies this most likely won’t fix the whole problem. But if you have it and they need some relief now go ahead and throw it on them. It will help their irritation. You can apply this remedy to your pup twice a week to relieve their itch.
Baking Soda
Baking soda has been on the defense. I’ve heard it’s not the very best but I can tell you when we applied it to our Austrian Shepherd it did wonders. You would do one part water and one park baking soda and mix it into a paste. Do not let your dog lick the baking soda off.. that’s where it could be harmful. You don’t need much! Apply to your dog avoiding their face and leave it set for about 15-20 minutes then rinse. Warning! This can be very messy so it’s best to do it outside or in an area you don’t mind cleaning up baking soda later. You can do this remedy once every 2 weeks. Results will be immediate and will leave your pup’s coat shining.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has been around as one of the best natural ways to help dogs dry skin for yearsss. Although the most effective way would be to use it as a spray. You can do half apple cider vinegar and half purified water. Separate your dogs hair and spray directly on their skin. The Apple cider vinegar helps freshen up your dog’s coat and help with their skin drying out. But you would not want to spray on any open sores or hotspots with this solution because it could be painful for your pup. This is mostly to prevent dry spots and reduce dandruff, not cure them. Make sure you completely avoid their eyes and face. You can use this spray once a week and will see results after 2 weeks.
