7 Vegetables that can grow inside

- Lettuce
- Radish
- Garlic Greens
- Tomato
- Spinach
- HOT Peppers
All these vegetables do require slightly different things but for the most part are super easy. So lets get this party started and get your grow on the go with vegetables you can grow inside.
Carrots– Vegetables You Can Grow Inside
Carrots are a really fun one and are actually the easiest in my opinion! All you really need for this vegetable is a container to grow it in and a window where the sun comes in. Yep! That’s it. Just water it when the soil looks dry- about once a week. It takes about 70 to 80 days for carrots to be ready to harvest. Carrots also can grow indoors year round. Although you can really grow them in anything you do have to think.. Things only grow as big as their environment. Carrots also grow down so I would suggest something at least (7-10inch) deep for this one. Or even just grow baby carrots. (Children love growing this one)
Lettuce– Vegetables You Can Grow Inside
The lettuce plant does require some space. If you’re planting heads of lettuce you must spread out the heads and place them in a room with a temperature of 64 to 70 degrees. Even your kitchen windowsill would be a good spot. But their roots can grow to be as long as 6-12 inches! So shooting for a bigger pot would be best with this one. Id suggest (10-25inch). They also need lots of water considering they are made up of 95% of water. Id place this one somewhere you can keep an eye on it and keep it water happy. The seeds could sprout in as little as 10 days. This one is for the salad lovers!
(Lettuce Fact: Lettuce is actually part of the Daisy Family)
Radish– Vegetables You Can Grow Inside
The radish is another fun one and takes minimum effort! Almost just like the carrot. All you need is a nice container. I recommend a 5 inch one for this veggie. Some rich soil and water when the soil gets dry. Usually just once a week. They need about 6 hours of direct sunlight. So a sunny window will do it good. They only take about 4-10 days to sprout and can be ready to harvest in 30-45 days. Radish are great in salads and are so good for you. Radish seem to be a hit or miss with a lot of people. I don’t know too many people who love the taste of this veggie but radish have so natural nitrates and detoxing properties that are amazing for your body. So through them in a smoothie and make your body happy.
Garlic Greens– Vegetables You Can Grow Inside
You can never have enough garlic right? This one is a favorite that can grow year round and endlessly. You can grow this veggie from a simple clove. I do suggest getting your garlic cloves from an organic shop or farmers market. Organic cloves tend to grow stronger. The cool thing about garlic is you can grow it in soil or water. For soil you should put your garlic in the fridge for about 4-6 weeks before planting. Then place the cloves in a container about (4-6 inches) with the point facing up. Place them by a window and water them. Then in about 8-10 days they will be ready to snip. For water which is what I suggest you put a small amount of soil in the bottom of a cup or shallow bowl (you could even cut a used water bottle and recycle it) and add water. Place the cloves points facing up and stick them in a sunny window and watch them grow. In about a week the greens will be ready to be snipped. Pretty much the same process just less work.
Tomato– Vegetables You Can Grow Inside
Tomato’s are probably one of the most difficult vegetables to grow inside but its not impossible. Tomato plants d require more of an outdoor environment which can be hard in some households. The ideal temperature to grow tomato’s is around 68-73 degrees as well as 8 hours of sunlight. If you have a light GREAT!! If you don’t its okay. You can still try! You need a container about (6 inches) with rich soil. Place the seeds about an inch to 2 in the soil and water. Place by the sunniest window you have in your house. Tomato take about (5-10 days) to sprout and (60-100 days) to be ready to harvest. They also can live indoors for up to 5 years indoors.
Spinach– Vegetables You Can Grow Inside
Spinach is another easy one! All you really need for this one is a longer pot about (6-8inch) so you can plant your seeds spread out in a single row. They do need a little space like the lettuce. If grown too close together they won’t be able to grow out their leaves and that’s the part you want. Spinach grows in a little but of a cooler climate. They do well in partially shaded spots. They do need about (4 to 6 hours) of sunlight, so a night windowsill would be perfect. Water it regularly and give it love! Then in about (6-10 weeks) your spinach will be ready to be added to your salad. Spinach is also an amazing vegetable that can help with headaches.
Hot Peppers– Vegetables You Can Grow Inside
Pepper plants are awesome and just down right look super cool. Almost like a decoration in a garden. Imagine you’re cute pepper plant in your kitchen. Hot peppers actually grow indoors REALLY good. All you need for this a pot (8-10 inches) with drainage holes and some rich soil. Hot pepper seedlings need about 6 hours of sunlight and when sprouted need about 12 hours of sunlight and 8-12 hours of darkness. Hot peppers take about a week to start sprouting and are ready for harvest after around 150 days. Also this plant can live in your home up to 5 years. This vegetable is great for taco nights and contains a crazy amount of vitamins.
(Hot Pepper Fact: Hot peppers beat oranges 3 to 1 in vitamin C and packed full with Vitamins A, B and E)
